Music Pick: The Grande Mothers Re:Invented    REDCAT    Fri, Apr 14 8:30 PM    Classical
This ¥¦Stravinsky Meets Zappa¥¤ concept/concert is worthy of the MotherFather himself. Ex¥åMothers of Invention Don Preston, Napoleon Murphy Brock and Roy Estrada summon some of the region¥±s best improvisers and new-musicologists (Joel Hamilton, Amy Knoles, Marc Lowenstein, Daniel Rosenboom, Sarah Schoenbeck, Harry Scorzo, David Sherr, Steven Suminski,  plus dancer Lillian Bitkoff") to take a skewed whack at Stravinsky¥±s minidrama of war and the devil, L¥±Histoire du Soldat ¡¦which has particular resonance right now, not to mention a Motherly side theme.

Then the Grande Mothers add the brilliant distorto-folk guitarist Miroslav Tadic, omnivorous percussionist Christopher Garcia and more in a set of Mothers tunes. You just have to trust some very trustworthy musicians. 631 W. Second St., dwntwn.; 8:30 p.m.; $28.
